With the college football regular season about at a close, this weekend is championship week for the elite conferences in the NCAA. On Saturday December 6th the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big 12, and Southeastern Conference (SEC) will all crown their champions of football. While a lot of pride comes with winning each respective conference championship, each of these games will have a major impact on the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) standings and the pairing for the BCS Bowl games (including the national championship game).
The ACC Championship game will be held this Saturday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay Florida. This game will feature the winner of the Coastal and Atlantic Divisions- the Boston College Eagles and the Virginia Tech Hokies. Although both Boston College and Virginia Tech have been often overlooked; this should be a great game between 2 vastly underrated teams. Even those that aren’t fans of either team will be interested in the outcome as the winner of this game automatically earns a birth in the FedEx Orange Bowl. Look for this to be a rather low-scoring defensive battle. Currently, Boston College is the favorite by 1 point. |

The Missouri Tigers are champions of the Big 12 North once again after the Texas Longhorns took care of the Kansas Jayhawks, and Mizzou beat the Iowa State Cyclones last weekend. This is the second straight year the Tigers have captured the North crown and they will look to win the program’s first Big 12 Championship on December 6th at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
While Chase Daniels and the rest of the Missouri football crew celebrate the achievement of back-to-back North titles, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas are still fighting it out for South Division supremacy. Perhaps the biggest Big 12 game this year will be the Texas Tech at Oklahoma game this Saturday in Norman. If the Red Raiders win they will likely play Missouri in the championship game. If Oklahoma wins, it will be anyone’s guess who slides into the championship game. |

This weekend’s Big 12 matchup between #2 Texas Tech and #5 Oklahoma will garner the attention of college football fans everywhere. Not only will this game settle the Big XII South Division title but it will also play a large role in determining who will earn a berth to the BCS National Championship game. Should the Red Raiders lose to the Sooners on Sunday, a potential 3-way tie for the South Division is likely. A loss and the currently undefeated Texas Tech squad would move into a tie with one loss teams Texas and Oklahoma. In that event, the winner would come down to the BCS rankings and it’s anyone’s guess as to who would come out on top of that given the scenario described above. The computer average that account for 1/3 of the BCS rankings is likely to significantly change in the remaining weeks of the NCAA football season. Oklahoma with games against tough opponents Texas Tech and Oklahoma State will likely see a boost in their average , while Texas, who plays Texas A&M, and Tech, who plays Oklahoma and Baylor, will likely see a bit of a drop. |
